San Bernardino County Public Attorneys Association Joins Sheriff’s Gift of Love Christmas Program
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (December 9, 2015) – The San Bernardino County Public Attorneys Association joined with the San Bernardino County Safety Employees Benefit Association Gift of Love Christmas program to help families celebrate the holidays. SBCPAA has sponsored 15 families this year. Through the Gift of Love program, members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department aid women and children that are victims of domestic violence and currently live in domestic violence shelters.
“We are honored to be able to be a part of this special event,” SBCPAA President Michael Abacherli said. “These families deserve support from the community. They have come upon very difficult times, through no fault of their own. They must often begin their lives anew, with just a handful of belongings. This can make the holidays a very difficult time for these families. SBCPAA is thrilled to able bring a little bit of joy to them during this holiday season.”
Gifts of Love brings gifts to children and holiday cheer to their families through a special event in mid-December. The event, held at an undisclosed location for security reasons, includes a Christmas dinner, family activities and gifts for children of the women who live in the domestic violence shelters. A special guest and his elves present the gifts to the children, with a little help from the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit.
In May SBCPAA donated $5,000 to Option House to kick off a fundraising campaign for the organization to help with improvements to the organization’s shelter facility.
The San Bernardino County Public Attorneys Association is comprised of the San Bernardino County Public Defenders, the San Bernardino County District Attorneys, and the San Bernardino County Child Advocacy Attorneys. These attorneys are primarily responsible for conducting the affairs of the county system of justice, along with private attorneys who also work inside the criminal justice and child advocacy system.
Public defenders provide legal counsel for those who cannot afford their own attorney to assure that they have a professional defense. District Attorneys are the lawyers responsible for prosecuting criminal conduct. Child advocacy attorneys work to ensure that children in the county are getting the legal support that they deserve.
